Packaging design and artwork for the Carnaval range was produced by the in-house graphic designer Ger Huntjens and won him the 'Golden Nut' (Gouden Noot) prize for the best new packaging of the year 1958.
During the successful launch campaign for Carnaval at the huishoudbeurs in 1956, the combination of colours and images was considered innovative and modern and the timely encouragement to 'Decorate your table with a Carnaval of colours' rang home in many a housewife's ear!
In recent years the packaging has acquired a collectability of its own. There are assumed to be 22 unique box designs in total. Price is very much determined by condition with fine (empty) examples costing 25-60 euros.
In addition to the display tray, the new boxes contained an inserted 'shipping support' of brown pressed cardboard to ensure stability during shipping and handling.

The influence of Huntjes design is still resonant, as this recent UK poster shows!
De Rupel sold most of their glassware 'to the trade' (rather than to the customer) and consequently their packaging was more modest.
