Individual Carnaval glasses will vary slightly in size and colour,(shade is consistant, but the depth of colour varies, particularly noticably on blue and amethyst (purple) items). The diameter given here is measured at the top rim.
We show also some examples of Carnaval's near-relatives like the matching vases in three sizes., as well as a selection of 'orphans, widows and bastards', items whose relationships to Carnaval are less direct.
Hogelandshoeve has an extensive collection of Carnaval for sale, and we can help to complete your collection.
We have also tried to make a handy wallet-sized checklist to help collectors in their hunt.

There is some debate about the exact form and dimensions of K29b. Bowls have been reported in a wide range of sizes, similar colours, and similar profiles, but it is very difficult to be sure of identification. We would be pleased to hear from any collectors who have the large bowls in the dark colours, and who can supply comparative fotos.

Relatives:
or "It's not in the catalogue...so is it Carnaval?"

Carnaval glasses were provided with transfer prints and gold rims, and could be customised for private clients or localised for various (Dutch) cities.
Generally these items are less collectable than the undecorated versions.
This example shows the city arms of Amsterdam.

Maastricht 'teardrop' vases (in 3 sizes), goblet vases and fruitbowls were among the designs produced to make up Carnaval gift packages. They are thought to exist in all the Carnaval colours although they were never a boxed set. The small model is 80mm high. The tall model is 150mm high. The later intermediate size (K102/VA) is 117mm high.
The K6 normally has a foot in matching colour, but has occasionally been found with a clear foot. It is said that some of these glasses were sold by Kristalunie as a non-Carnaval product.
The K1 ijscoupe is one of the designs which has been found in clear glass
The Maastricht Fruitbowl was also produced in Carnaval colours and included in Carnaval 'Gift boxes'. It has an almost identical profile to the K13 fingerbowls but measures 187 mm at the rim with a height of 74 cm.
This revised tumbler is very similar to K3 but has a narrower shape at the base. It is suggested by one collector that this is an early design which was dropped because it lacked stability. The diameter at the top is 65mm and it's 106mm high.
This model of longdrink tumbler is perhaps a replacement for K3 but has a more cylindrical shape (with vertical sides). It is likely that this design is a late addition to Carnaval, It is likely that this design is cat. K101/P2 or a shorter version K101/P3, both late additions to Carnaval (Many similar forms exist and it is difficult to be sure which are Maastricht.), The diameter at the top is 72mm and it's 153mm high.
(We would like to hear from readers who can help us to confirm this information.
This page includes all the models known to us which we can consider part of the Carnaval stemware service, but there are a range of other items made at Maastricht which feature the same colours and may have been intended as complementary to the stemware.
More information about these items is to be found on our 'Carnaval - Widows and Orphans' page.
